The new Quinhai Railway train from Beijing to Lhasa is the world’s highest rail line, with oxygen pumped into the cars for the last portion of the journey inside Tibet. A trip on this train in the soft-sleeper cabins offers comfortable and outstanding views of the high country of northern Tibet for the first 8 hours leaving Lhasa. Take the train FROM Lhasa instead of INTO Lhasa if you have a choice, as the train INTO Lhasa reaches Tibet late at night … you won’t see much! It is a travel experience that is highly recommended.
